Andy Whing believes Barrow are going from strength to strength after battling back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with promotion-chasing AFC Wimbledon at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.
The hosts appeared to be cruising towards victory after Marcus Browne’s opener and Matty Stevens’ 17th League Two goal of the season saw them leading 2-0 heading into the final moments.
However, Dean Campbell halved the deficit in the 88th minute before Connor Mahoney’s goal deep into stoppage time salvaged a point for the visitors.
Whing felt his side deserved something from the game after a dogged display in south-west London.
“I thought we were excellent throughout,” said Whing, whose 17th-placed team have now picked up eight points from their last four games.
“I thought we probably lacked a bit of quality at times, probably in transition.
“We got into really good areas, they were really open in transition. I think if we had got that right we would have won the game today.
“I am really really pleased with the result at the end.
“I think if you look from the Crewe game (3-0 loss on February 22) until now it is chalk and cheese, it’s absolutely outstanding.
“In that Crewe game we kind of went under, 3-0 and it could have been more.
“We just look miles better, I think the shape and everything about us today, we have gone toe-to-toe with a team that is flying high so we should be pleased with our efforts.
“Disappointing the way that we let them score the first goal and then second goal straight after but massive belief to come back and get a point.”
The result leaves The Dons in third place in League Two, six points behind leaders Walsall and level on 64 points with fourth-placed Port Vale.
Dons manager Johnnie Jackson insists his side will not be feeling sorry for themselves after a disappointing result.
“They (the players) are gutted, it is a game we should win,” he said.
“There is nothing that I can say now that is not going to make them disappointed but we will come in on Monday and we will be ready to work.
“We have another big game next week, we could have two more points on the board of course but there is another game and we are still in a good position.
“They won’t (feel sorry for themselves), none of that.
“Be gutted, be disappointed but they will come in on Monday ready to work and ready to put it right.
“A really strong second-half performance I felt, so to not get the win that I felt the performance deserved, that’s football.
“The goals we conceded are sort of our fault really because we had the ball, we had control, we had a corner kick and a free-kick and we allowed them to turn over possession and we allowed them to come back and attack us.
“That is the frustrating bit.”
