Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister is having a baby with the childhood best friend of his former ex-girlfriend.
The Argentine found himself in an alleged love triangle after he left his girlfriend Camila Mayan just days after winning the World Cup, ending their five-year relationship - then immediately started a relationship with her childhood friend Ailen Cova.
Camila has accused him of cheating on her with her pal. But three years on, Mac Allister is set to become a father as he and Ailen have announced she is pregnant with their first child. The couple announced the news on Instagram with a collection of videos where they told their loved ones the news.
Alongside the videos, Ailen captioned the post: "We wish and love you with all our heart. see u soon little one". In the comments, Mac Allister added: "I love you with all my heart."
The couple were congratulated by the partners of his Liverpool team-mates, including Federico Chiesa's wife Lucia Bramani, Curtis Jones' partner Saffie Khan and Dominik Szoboszlai's fiancee, Borka Buzsik.
Mac Allister and Ailen will be hoping their relationship continues plain sailing as his break-up from Camila turned ugly. The midfielder was the subject of a lawsuit against him, filed by Camila.
She insisted that she be paid financial compensation from Mac Allister for the years they lived together abroad after the Argentine moved to Brighton in 2019 from Boca Juniors. Camila also accused him of being unfaithful with Ailen.
"It was a betrayal," Camila told Argentinian television show Intrusos. "Everything that happened, I could have never imagined even in my worst nightmare. I would never have imagined so many negative things about such a close person."
Mac Allister previously discussed the end of their romance, saying: "There was no more relationship. She took her path, I took mine, and that's it. As for the other thing (the lawsuit), everything is in court, where it should be, and we are waiting."
He added: "At the time we discussed what we needed to discuss, but it was clearly her decision, everything is fine and she is within her rights."
It's said that Mac Allister started dating Cova just two months after the split. He believes Camila publicised their fallout but denies any accusation of cheating.
He continued: "I think it's normal in a relationship; she made the decision to come out and make public things that she felt or that she believes happened, but I know how things went and that's why I'm very calm."
However, Camila's lawyer Ignacio Trimarco said earlier last year that Mac Allister actually chose to go public. "From our side nothing was said; it became known from the other side because Camila does not want to publicise this situation," Trimarco told Intrusos (American TV) last July.
"What she asks for is confidential like any family case, but it is financial compensation. In this case [the amount requested by Camila] will be determined by a judge based on the evidence presented."
