Stephen Robinson expressed his disgust over the reaction of a section of Motherwell supporters to a head injury suffered by Caolan Boyd-Munce.
The St Mirren midfielder left the field on a stretcher following a nasty-looking collision just after the hour at Fir Park.
The Saints boss revealed Boyd-Munce suffered concussion and will now follow the two-week protocol relating to head injuries.
“Somebody’s son is lying on the ground in a neck brace and some of the comments I find incredible, but no surprise,” Robinson said.
“Hopefully it’s only just concussion and there’s the two-week protocol to get over it.
“The main thing is he will be OK after he goes through the protocols. He’s feeling a bit sick and bit battered and bruised but fingers crossed he’ll be OK.”
Robinson’s side were hauled back from 2-0 up against the Steelmen, having to settle for a share of the spoils in the end.
Boyd-Munce opened the scoring in the 23rd minute and Killian Phillips added a second 10 minutes later.
The hosts came up with a big reaction as Callum Slattery powered home minutes after Motherwell had fallen 2-0 behind, and he then struck again in the 71st minute to level matters.
St Mirren were reduced to 10 men for the final minutes following a second yellow card for Toyosi Olusanya.
However, they finished the game the stronger of the two sides, almost nicking a winner through Alex Gogic’s header.
The Buddies boss said: “I thought we were in total control of the game.
“I didn’t feel any threat from Motherwell, they had two shots and scored two goals.
“For me, it’s two points dropped.”
Michael Wimmer was pleased with his team’s reaction after a slow start.
After suffering a defeat in his first game in charge, the Well boss has now led his new club to seven points from a possible nine.
Motherwell remain right in the mix for a place in the top six, trailing Hearts in the final top-half position by one point with three games remaining.
“Firstly, I want to say all the best to the opponent player who suffered a head injury,” Wimmer said.
“It was a very tough game, it was how we expected. In the end, the draw is OK for both sides.
“The team has a great character and at 2-0 for me there was no doubt they could come back.
“We needed 30 minutes to come into the game – we lacked energy to start with.”
