Michael Flynn believes Cheltenham’s 2-1 League Two win at promotion-chasing AFC Wimbledon was one of their best results of the season.
It was 1-1 at half-time after James Tilley’s goal cancelled out Ashley Hay’s looping header.
The Dons appeared to be in control of the contest during a dominant second-half display, but Matty Taylor scored against the run of play to give the Robins the win.
Flynn praised his side’s resilience during the second half.
“Yeah I think so (one of Cheltenham’s best results of the season) against an AFC Wimbledon side that is going for automatic promotion,” he said.
“I’ll try to be consistent with the viewers and media and be open and honest, not just because we won, but that second half was some performance.
“We dug in, we battled, we played the game the right way away from home. So yeah, that is a big, big win.
“Yeah, unbelievable finish and if there was anybody you want in that position it would be Matty Taylor.
“We do usually create chances, I am just more impressed with the way that we dug in and hung in there tonight.
“I am not saying it was backs against the wall, but we defended properly in the second half and that was the pleasing thing.
“They gave me the right response and they deserved that tonight.”
The Dons would have moved into third place if they had won at The Cherry Red Records Stadium, but defeat meant they dropped down to fifth.
Victory left Cheltenham in 13th place, seven points off the play-off places with 10 games remaining.
Dons manager Johnnie Jackson felt his side did enough to take something from the game.
“As I just said to the boys, three days ago we are on top of the world after getting a result here, three days later we’re down in the dumps,” he said.
“We will have to take that one on the chin.
“Ironically there probably wasn’t a massive difference in performance level, in the main we dominated tonight like we did on Saturday, but obviously we have only got one goal to show for our efforts and we have shipped two down the other end.
“Certainly the first one is a really soft one so that is a frustration, but yeah we have done more than enough to take something from that game tonight but that is obviously particularly annoying.
“We have got the best defence in the league statistically, we have conceded the least goals so if all of a sudden we have an off night like we did, I’m not going to turn on all the players. That can happen in football.”
