Matty Taylor scored a late winner as AFC Wimbledon missed the chance to move into the League Two automatic promotion places with a 2-1 defeat at home to Cheltenham.
A win would have seen Johnnie Jackson’s side leapfrog Doncaster into third, but they ended the evening in fifth after their third loss in four games.
The ball dropped kindly to George Miller inside the Dons’ penalty area in the eighth minute, only for the Cheltenham forward to fire wide from a few yards out.
Matty Stevens then nodded Isaac Ogundere’s cross over the bar as the home side started to apply the pressure.
However, the visitors took the lead in the 24th minute when Ashley Hay produced a stunning header that looped over Owen Goodman before nestling in the bottom right corner.
James Tilley responded with a headed goal of his own 13 minutes later, having got on the end of Josh Neufville’s dangerous delivery.
Neufville almost set up Omar Bugiel with an excellent cut-back after the break before picking out Alistair Smith on the edge of the box in the 50th minute.
Smith looked certain to score, but his powerful effort went wide of the target.
The Dons remained on the front foot for much of the half, but Taylor was put through on goal by Hay in the 79th minute and he made no mistake, firing a sublime right-footed shot into the bottom left corner to secure the victory.
