Calum Gallagher scores late winner as League One leaders Arbroath beat Alloa
{by} PA

Substitute Calum Gallagher scored an 89th-minute winner as William Hill League One leaders Arbroath withstood an Alloa fightback to claim a 3-2 victory on Saturday.

The Red Lichties had looked on course for a comfortable win at the Indodrill Stadium after taking a 20th-minute lead through Ryan Dow and adding a second with an Aaron Muirhead strike.

The hosts hit back with two goals in the space of three minutes from Luke Rankin and Stefan Scougall but Gallagher had the final say in the dying moments.

Second-placed Stenhousemuir, who have a game in hand, stayed within five points after a 2-0 triumph at Annan.

Gregor Buchanan opened scoring after 37 minutes and Euan O’Reilly put the result beyond doubt 10 minutes from time.

Cove Rangers are three points further back in third place after running out 3-1 winners over Queen of the South.

Reece Lyon put the Doonhamers ahead after seven minutes at the Balmoral Stadium but Blair Yule levelled for Rangers before Adam Emslie struck either side of the break to secure the win.

Inverness snatched a last-gasp 1-0 win at Dumbarton in a battle between two clubs to have been deducted points for entering administration this season.

Alfie Bavidge scored the only goal in stoppage time, boosting Caley’s hopes of avoiding relegation and leaving the Sons 19 points adrift at the foot of the table.

Kelty Hearts and Montrose played out a goalless draw.

Alan Trouten struck the winner as East Fife moved three points clear at the top of League Two with a 2-1 win at Clyde.

Martin Rennie’s penalty for Clyde on 55 minutes had cancelled out Robert Jones’ second-minute opener but Trouten restored East Fife’s lead just a minute later.

Second-placed Peterhead lost ground as they were held 0-0 at Stranraer, their frustrations compounded by the late sending off of Kieran Shanks.

James Stokes scored a stoppage-time clincher as 10-man Edinburgh City won 1-0 at nine-man Bonnyrigg Rose.

City had Malek Zaid sent off for a second bookable offence just before the hour but the dismissals of Kieran McGachie and Cameron Ross in the closing stages proved costly as Stokes struck late on.

That meant Bonnyrigg slipped to the bottom of the table as Forfar won 1-0 at Elgin City in a game that saw two red cards.

Elgin’s Kyle Girvan was given his marching orders after 42 minutes and Bradley Rodden capitalised to a score a 79th-minute winner, although he too was dismissed before the final whistle.

Spartans’ clash with Stirling ended 0-0.
