Caretaker boss Andy Crosby does not want struggling Tranmere to be happy with draws after they held promotion-chasing Grimsby at Blundell Park.
Sam Finley got the struggling visitors off to a great start with a 10th-minute opener and they managed to get past the hour mark with the lead still intact.
But Grimsby skipper Danny Rose equalised from the penalty spot as the teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw.
Tranmere moved on from manager Nigel Adkins last week, having not won since January 4, and caretaker Crosby wants the team to expect more from themselves.
“I want us to walk away disappointed, having not won the game,” said Crosby. “We got a point on Saturday against a promotion-chasing team and another here going for the same thing.
“I didn’t see a massive difference between the teams despite the contrasting positions. We’ve taken a point away from home, our first away game as a group, and we can’t think about the past.
“It was a great finish on the edge of the box from Sam (Finley) for the goal – we’re trying to go after teams without the ball and play on the front foot, which we did from the start. We want to play forward in possession and break the lines.
“The pitch has affected the quality of the game for both teams. There were some good things for us to build on moving forward, but we’re not going to pat ourselves on the back too much with a draw.”
For Grimsby, it was a point gained on a couple of teams who lost in the top seven, including Crewe in that final play-off spot, but also a missed opportunity.
“It’s the same result as Saturday but a different feeling,” added Artell. “We didn’t really get going until about 30 to 35 minutes in. The game was flat, and so was the atmosphere.
“We were second best in the duels for the first half an hour, and the quality on the ball was not quite there.
“We got one goal back but didn’t do enough for two, and as an attack-minded team, we’re disappointed with that.
“On the flip side, it’s a point gained on a few teams above us (who lost), and we’re seven games unbeaten, so there’s lots of positives in that sense.
“I don’t always have all the answers, and I’m not sure (about the slow start), but it was never going to be an easy game.
“Jordan (Wright) didn’t really have a meaningful save to make after their goal but we didn’t test their goalkeeper enough either.”
