Will Neymar stay at Santos? Club president speaks out on Brazilian superstar's future after brilliant Olimpico goal
{by} Goal.com

Santos president Marcelo Teixeira remains confident that Neymar will extend his stay at the club at least until the 2026 World Cup.

  • Santos president wants Neymar to stay at club
  • Signed a six-month deal in January
  • Scored an 'Olimpico goal' on Sunday

WHAT HAPPENED?

Neymar returned to his boyhood club Santos after more than a decade in January after mutually terminating his contract with Al-Hilal. The Brazilian forward put pen to paper on a short-term six-month deal but club president Teixeira remains confident that the 33-year-old will extend his stay at the club beyond his current deal.

WHAT SANTOS PRESIDENT SAID

Speaking to ESPN, the Santos chief said: "With Neymar's arrival, we have 75,000 members. Today, we can measure what is related to the technical aspect, what represents the financial aspect. All financial objectives will be increased, above what we previously estimated. If everything goes well, the tendency is for this partnership to continue and be expanded until next year's World Cup."

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The 33-year-old scored his second goal in his sixth appearance for Santos on Sunday as he scored a world-class 'Olimpico goal' by putting the ball directly into the net from a corner against Inter de Limeira in a Paulista Championship clash.

WHAT NEXT FOR NEYMAR?

Neymar has yet to decide whether to stay back in Brazil beyond the current season. He has been linked with a move back to Europe in the summer, with Cadena SER reporting that the Brazil icon is desperate to prove his worth to Barcelona and earn a second spell at Camp Nou.
