Real Madrid are reportedly trying to sensationally quit La Liga in a fresh spat with league chief Javier Tebas. The Spanish giants are claimed to want to seek 'asylum' in a foreign league after a spate of apparent injustices, compounded by the controversial sending off of England midfielder Jude Bellingham at the weekend.
Bellingham's red card against Osasuna - issued after he allegedly told referee Munuera Montero "f*** you", something the 21-year-old denies - came after Real were also furious with a decision in their previous match. They felt Carlos Romero should have been sent off for a challenge on Kylian Mbappe before the Espanyol star went on to score the winner in a shock 1-0 defeat.
Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to quit La Liga
Head coach Ancelotti pointedly jibed that "VAR must have been turned off", with Real claiming that video evidence shows Bellingham instead saying "f*** off" out of personal frustration, not aimed at the referee.
The Three Lions ace could face up to a 12-match ban with La Liga's rules stating that players found guilty of "insulting, offending, or addressing the main referee, assistants, fourth official, directors, or sports authorities in offensive terms or attitudes" will be suspended for between four and 12 games.
According to Spanish publication Sport, the latest rift with La Liga has prompted Real president Florentino Perez to seek 'asylum' in a foreign league. He is reportedly prepared to quit La Liga after Tebas said Real have "lost their minds" in response to a statement issued by the club in the aftermath of their 1-0 loss against Espanyol.
Forbes suggest that potential destinations for Real include the German, French and Italian leagues. A move to the Premier League is likely out of the question after Los Blancos failed in a pursuit to move to England several years ago.
However, switching leagues would be an extremely tricky exercise. Perez would need to gain approval from La Liga, FIFA and UEFA.
Receiving the green light from the latter might be the most difficult of all as Real remain embroiled in a row with the European governing body over their desire to quit and subsequently create a separate European Super League.
Meanwhile, the report also claims that Real are adamant that Tebas has persuaded other clubs to join him in an apparent anti-Madrid "crusade".
Barcelona could now leapfrog Real and go top of La Liga after a series of disappointing results. Osasuna were able to equalise against 10 men following Bellingham's red card to take two points off Ancelotti's side.
