Postecoglou denies Tel rejected Spurs before loan move

Mathys joined Spurs in a deadline day transfer that will see him spend the rest of the season on loan while the north London side have a €55 million (£46m/$57m) option to buy him permanently this summer. However, the deal only went through after Tel reportedly turned down Spurs' initial permanent approach amid interest from Manchester United. Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou, although, has refuted such claims as he told reporters that the player just wanted to be comfortable with his decision.

Chelsea made sensational attempt to hijack Spurs' Tel move

Per L'Equipe, Chelsea reportedly tried to hijack Tottenham Hotspur's move for Bayern Munich star Mathys Tel on transfer deadline day.

Spurs announced the signing of Tel on loan from Bayern Munich in the late hours of the deadline day. The Frenchman, who initially rejected the north London club's offer, finally joined them after the English side agreed on a short-term loan deal with an option to buy for €55 million (£45.7m/ $56.9m) with the Bavarian giants.

Barcelona eyeing move for Palace's Mateta

Per Fichajes, Barcelona are eyeing a move for Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta next summer, as they look to replace an ageing Robert Lewandowski. While Palace would love to hold on to their star player, they might find it difficult to retain the striker if Barcelona actually come calling.

Reason why Nkunku did not leave Chelsea in January

Christopher Nkunku was closely linked with a move away from Chelsea in the January transfer window, however, the Frenchman ended up staying back at Stamford Bridge in the end.

Top clubs like Bayern Munich and Machester United were keen on signing the Frenchman, but the Blues were determined to retain the player's services until any of the clubs equalled their demand of €75million, according to Fichajes.

Man City to compete with Real Madrid for Hernandez

Per TEAMtalk, Premier League champions Manchester City have joined the race along with Real Madrid to sign AC Milan and France full-back Theo Hernandez. The left-back's current contract expires in the summer of 2026 and negotiations over a new deal have been kept on hold at the moment.

Why Garnacho's proposed transfer to Napoli fell through

Alejandro Garnacho's transfer to Napoli broke down despite the Italian giants tabling an "important bid" for the Manchester United winger.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna said: "We made an important bid to Manchester United for Garnacho. We really wanted him. We weren't able to agree on personal terms with Alejandro, he requested an important salary to leave in January and we must respect our players."

Ronaldo rules out Sporting CP return

Cristiano Ronaldo has ruled out a possible move back to his boyhood club Sporting CP in the future, despite former team-mate Jose Fonte urging him to retire at the Portuguese club.

Speaking to Canal 11, Ronaldo said: "I love watching Sporting games, it's my team… but I'm not planning to return playing there. I think it makes no sense. Of course, my country is Portugal, but everything has a time and a limit."

Galatasaray target Newcastle's Trippier

Galatasaray are making a determined effort to secure the signing of Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier, according to ESPN.

The Super Lig side is actively looking to bring in both a full-back and a centre-back as they aim to bolster their backline for the remainder of the season. However, sources involved in the negotiations have indicated that the move is far from straightforward, making it uncertain whether Galatasaray will be able to finalize the Turkish transfer window closes on February 11.

Slot content with Liverpool's January transfer decisions

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is content with the club's decision to avoid making signings during the January transfer window. Acknowledging the strength of his current squad, he stated that few managers are fortunate enough to work with a team of such high quality.

"But maybe there are not many managers that have such a good squad as I have," he told reporters.

"So, I've said that many times, we have a very good squad. And if you look at the league table, I think the players have shown that the trust we have in them was correct. And we don't have - apart from Trent (Alexander-Arnold) now, maybe for a few days - but we don't have many injuries, not long-term injuries in moments that the (transfer) window is open.

"So, we did have some injury problems with Alisson, with (Diogo) Jota, with some other spots. But at the moment, I think apart from Trent, they are all available again today. So, there is not a reason to add something to the team unless you have a chance in the market. But yeah, that's something we saw last time with the goalkeeper we brought in (Giorgi Mamardashvili), which he's not here, but we brought him in because we saw it as a chance in the market. But for now, we are happy with the team we have."

'Ridiculous' - Liverpool accused of making huge Salah mistake

Liverpool have been warned that they could be making an "absolutely ridiculous" mistake with Mohamed Salah, as his contract is allowed to run down.

Stan Collymore believes there may be more twists to come in a sporting soap opera, with it difficult to see why Liverpool would be prepared to part ways with Salah. The former Reds striker, told GOAL when asked about what happens next in a long-running saga: "I still think there is a lot of cat and mouse. My own personal view is that Liverpool would be absolutely ridiculous to let him go."
