Jack Grealish has been linked with a surprise move to Manchester United
Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a surprise move for Jack Grealish, who faces an uncertain future at Manchester City.
The former Aston Villa forward has struggled for game time over the last few months and has only scored one goal for City in his last 21 appearances.
Grealish's poor form was recently blasted by Pep Guardiola, who urged the 29-year-old to work harder on the training ground to earn his place back.
"He has to compete with himself," said Guardiola. "Savinho is in better shape and everything than Jack and that's why I played Savinho. I know that he can do it because I saw him and I want that in every single training session and every single game."
It has led to speculation that Grealish could be shipped out before the start of next season, with United said to be among the clubs keen on his signature, according to The Sun.
They have reportedly joined three other Premier League sides in keeping tabs on the winger. It is said that Ruben Amorim is desperate for attacking reinforcements after winning just five of his 15 games in charge of the Red Devils.
If the move goes ahead, it would make Grealish the first player to directly cross the Manchester divide since 2009, when Carlos Tevez swapped United for City.
The report adds that Tottenham and Newcastle have also been monitoring the situation, while Aston Villa are said to be interested in bringing their former player back to the west Midlands.
Grealish was a hero at Villa Park before joining City in a deal worth in excess of £100million four years ago. Some of their fans have turned on him following his decision to leave the club and he was given a hostile reception by Villa supporters last month.
Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan have also been credited with an interest in signing Grealish, who remains tied down to City until 2027. It is said that any move is more likely to happen in the summer than during the January transfer window.
Grealish scored his first goal in 392 days when he found the net against Salford City in the FA Cup earlier this month. He was dropped to the City bench for their big win over Ipswich Town last weekend, but came on for the final 27 minutes.
He has scored 15 goals and chipped in with 22 assists during his time at the Etihad Stadium, while he has also won 39 caps for England with four goals at international level.
