Lecce's president revealed he met with Manchester United representatives regarding Patrick Dorgu but warned to keep their hands off the player.
- Man Utd officials met with Lecce for Dorgu
- Serie A side reportedly want €40m
- Club president insists player is not for sale
WHAT HAPPENED?
United are actively exploring options to strengthen their left wing-back position, a role head coach Ruben Amorim sees as pivotal to improving the team’s performances. With current choices such as Diogo Dalot, Tyrell Malacia, and Noussair Mazraoui failing to meet expectations, the Red Devils have set their sights on Lecce’s Dorgu. The Danish defender, currently impressing in Serie A, has emerged as a top target for United during the upcoming January window and is viewed as a perfect fit for Amorim’s tactical system, which demands both defensive solidity and attacking prowess from the left flank.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
United officials recently travelled to Italy to open discussions with Lecce regarding Dorgu’s transfer. Reports suggest that while United are willing to increase their initial offer to €30 million, including bonuses, Lecce remain firm on their valuation. The Italian club is reportedly holding out for €40m but may settle for €35m with additional incentives.
WHAT LECCE'S PRESIDENT SAID
Lecce president Saverio Sticchi Damiani confirmed the meeting with Manchester United representatives but emphasised the club’s determination to retain Dorgu. Speaking to Sky Sports, Damiani said: "We met with Man Utd and we told them that our plan is to keep our key players, including Patrick Dorgu. We’re delighted to have Man Utd here to make a proposal but our target to stay in Serie A is crucial."
DID YOU KNOW?
Dorgu has garnered attention not only from United but also from other European clubs, including Napoli and Chelsea. While Chelsea were linked with the Denmark international last year, they have yet to formalise their interest with an approach to Lecce.
