Postecoglou hints at Tottenham's January plans

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has hinted at potential signings during the January transfer window but downplayed expectations of immediate upgrades to the starting XI.

Speaking at a Christmas Eve press conference, Postecoglou admitted that strengthening the first team could prove difficult but remained optimistic about enhancing squad depth.

"I'm kind of hoping I've been really good this year because I've got a fair Christmas list for Santa so I will see what I get," Postecoglou joked.

"I think improving the team may be a bit challenging, but improving the depth of our squad, I think there's always possibilities out there. I think it's a bit more challenging this January because of the way European football is set up, because sometimes in January you would find maybe a couple of clubs out of Champions League contention that were thinking, well, you know what, 'we're not in the Champions League, so maybe just release a couple from our roster.'

"So, that doesn't exist now because all European competitions are kind of still in the balance. That probably adds another layer of difficulty to it, but we'll endeavour because I think there's definitely a need for us to reinforce. We'll just see how successful we are in that."

Chelsea boss Maresca keen to retain Nkunku

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed his desire to keep forward Christopher Nkunku at Stamford Bridge amid speculation about a potential transfer in the upcoming window.

"We like Christo and we want him here," Maresca said.

"There will always be players that are not happy and some that will ask to leave in January. I am not sure if they will be Christo's or another player's case. We want to keep them here because we are happy with them here."

Liverpool close to agreeing new Salah deal

Liverpool have reportedly reached a crucial agreement with star forward Mohamed Salah on a contract extension, ensuring the Egyptian's future at Anfield. Salah's previous deal was set to expire at the end of the season, raising concerns about the possibility of losing one of the club's most influential players on a free transfer. According to Fichajes, Liverpool and Salah have come to terms on a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2028.

Sporting dismiss Pereira on Christmas Day

Joao Pereira's tenure as manager of Sporting Lisbon has come to an abrupt end after he was dismissed on Christmas Day. The decision comes just over a month after Pereira was promoted to replace Ruben Amorim, who departed to take charge of Manchester United.

Pereira's stint as head coach proved challenging, with the team securing only three wins out of eight matches under his leadership. The poor run of form included a heavy 5-1 defeat against Arsenal in the Champions League, a result that highlighted the difficulties faced during his brief time at the helm.
