Bayern Munich emphatically bounced back from their shock loss to Mainz with a thumping 5-1 win over RB Leipzig - but Harry Kane was left frustrated.
- Bayern Munich beat RB Leipzig 5-1
- Musiala, Laimer, Kimmich, Sane & Davies score
- Kane left frustrated on first-team return
The home team took the lead inside 30 seconds when Michael Olise set up Jamal Musiala, who tapped in from close range. Just over a minute later, however, the visitors equalised when Benjamin Sesko stroked home Lois Openda's dangerous cross.
Konrad Laimer scored against his old side in fine fashion when he volleyed in Olise's pinpoint delivery in the 25th minute, before Joshua Kimmich's 25-yard piledriver 11 minutes later put Bayern in control.
The returning Harry Kane endured a frustrating night, punctuated by moments of real quality and rustiness you would expect from someone who has been out injured for several weeks. The wheels well and truly came off of Leipzig's wagon when Leroy Sane and Alphonso Davies scored two quick-fire goals in the final quarter of the game.
The result ensured Bayern bounced back in ideal fashion from their shock 2-1 loss to Mainz last weekend as they went seven points clear at the top of the Bundesliga on Friday night.
THE MVP
While Kimmich and Laimer scored the pick of the goals for Bayern, Olise was arguably the star of the show. He bagged a couple of sumptuous assists and orchestrated much of the home side's attack. The former Crystal Palace man, who deserved a goal for his efforts, is back on song.
THE BIG LOSER
Although Kim Min-jae looked shaky at the back for Bayern, with the defender getting easily turned by Openda for Sesko's goal, Leipzig completely fell apart towards the end of the game in a performance that will infuriate manager Marco Rose.
WHAT COMES NEXT?
Bayern will now embark on their winter break, before returning on January 11 when they travel to Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga.
