The January transfer window is almost upon us and Premier League clubs are making their final preparations ahead of a busy month of deals. The first half of the 2024-25 season has emphasised the need for many teams to improve their squads.
Not many fans would have predicted the underperformance of Manchester City this season. Nor, to a lesser extent, Arsenal. Neither of the two teams who have competed for the title in the last few seasons look ready to challenge Liverpool and Chelsea at the top without further reinforcements.
Liverpool themselves may benefit from a couple of additions to bolster Arne Slot's squad and ensure the Reds claim a first league title since 2020. Then there is Manchester United, who look like they could need a whole host of new signings to fit into Amorim's 3-4-2-1 formation.
Man Utd eye £50m midfielder
Manchester United are reportedly seriously considering Atalanta midfielder Ederson ahead of the January window.
Sky Sports Germany claim that the Brazilian, rated between £40-50million, could be on the move to Old Trafford.
However, there is some internal conflict over whether Ederson is the right addition and no concrete discussions have taken place.
Ademola Lookman 'asks to join Liverpool'
Atalanta star Ademola Lookman is reportedly keen on a return to the Premier League and Merseyside.
Lookman was previously of Everton but Anfield Watch claim that he is keen on a move to rivals Liverpool.
Manchester City are also said to have been informed of Lookman's interest, though the Serie A side would command a hefty fee for their talisman.
Man City and Prem trio chase Khusanov
Manchester City, Tottenham, Newcastle United and Leicester City are all chasing Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov, according to L'Equipe.
The Ligue 1 club are open to selling either Khusanov, 20, or Kevin Danso during the January transfer window.
And a Premier League quartet is queueing up to have a pop at landing the former.
Khusanov, a centre-back, has been a regular at Lens this season and he boasts 16 senior caps for Uzbekistan.
Man Utd get Gyokeres boost
The path has cleared for Manchester United to swoop for Viktor Gyokeres as rival suitors Arsenal reportedly have 'reservations' about the Swede.
Ruben Amorim is keen to reunite with the striker who fired him to Liga Portugal glory with Sporting last season.
The Gunners have also been linked in recent weeks, but The Daily Mail claim that they are concerned about his price tag, and whether he can cut it in a top European league.
United may not get a completely free run at £63million-rated Gyokeres, but Arsenal stepping back from the race would greatly increase their chances of getting a deal done.
Arsenal are reportedly stepping up their interest in Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres with a view to launching a move for the striker in the summer transfer window. The Gunners have made no secret of their desire to recruit a world-class goalscorer after seeing a third successive Premier League title challenge falter in the latter stages of the season. Gyokeres has emerged as a leading target for the...
