Liverpool could have a youthful flavour to their squad for Wednesday’s League Cup quarter-final away to Southampton.
The Reds are fighting strong on several fronts with early talk about a quadruple already starting to grow.
Arne Slot’s side sit on top of both the Premier League and Champions League tables and could book their spot in the last four of the League Cup with a win over Saints.
But with the fixtures starting to come thick and fast over the festive period, Slot could look to freshen things up on the south coast by throwing in some young faces.
Four youth team players weren’t involved in Liverpool’s under-21 clash against Crystal Palace on Monday afternoon, with speculation they could feature against Southampton starting to grow.
Trey Nyoni, Amara Nallo, Jayden Danns and James Norris were all absent from the youth team match yesterday.
Nyoni, Danns and Norris have all featured in the senior set-up before, but should Nallo see the pitch tomorrow, it will mark his Liverpool debut.
Slot hasn’t often rotated his side since taking charge during the summer, with the Dutchman instead favouring the odd tinker here and there.
But the ex-Feyenoord manager has admitted in the past he’ll have to start rotating more often when the matches begin to pile up.
Comparing his new job to his time in the Netherlands, Slot remarked: “My former teams we were able to actually play almost every game with the same players but it is a different league so I might have to adjust to that, but it also depends on what they show in terms of physique.
“In the first three games we were really strong in terms of physique but we only played one game every seven days. Now they have a point to prove.
“I assume they all want to play every game, so if they want to they have to show up every time in terms of quality and especially workrate.
Slot’s predecessor knows more than anyone the talent that lies within the Liverpool youth ranks, with ‘Jurgen Klopp’s kids’ - as they came to be known - helping guide the six-time European champions to League Cup glory last season.
And if given the chance on Wednesday, ‘Slot’s students’ might get to have another say of their own.
