Interim head coach Tom Hounsell was delighted to see Burton Albion grab a first League win of the season as the Brewers defeated Shrewsbury 2-0 to move off the bottom of the table.
Tomas Kalinauskas and Danilo Orsi scored either side of the break for the Brewers, leaving the man in charge feeling overjoyed as Albion won at the 14th time of asking.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling and all the hard work that we have put in over the last couple of weeks has paid off.” Hounsell said.
“I’m especially pleased for the players and the fans. That feeling they got, I’m really happy that we’ve been able to do that for them.”
Whilst the attackers won the game for Albion, Hounsell praised the defensive solidity that saw a third clean sheet in a row in all competitions to provide a solid platform.
“The most pleasing thing, besides the win, is those three clean sheets in a row,” he added. “The objective for the team was three clean sheets this week and to get that is massive and it comes from the hard work.”
Kalinauskas struck after 10 minutes with a composed finish at the back post for his first EFL goal, with Orsi crucially putting the game to bed six minutes after half-time, curling home from the edge of the box.
Hounsell said: “The goals absolutely came at good times for us, although I would have also liked one after 20 minutes if possible! I was really pleased with the response of the players straight after half-time.
“We talked about building momentum and the next goal being so crucial and we were able to get it from a quality strike from Danilo and that set us up for a good, solid second half.”
The opposite dug out also saw an interim head coach in charge with Shrews placing the team in the hands of coach Sean Parrish.
Paul Hurst left last weekend and Parrish was disappointed with his side’s showing as the Shrews swapped places with Albion at the bottom of the League One table.
“It’s a major disappointment. I took the team today and deep down I thought we did okay but we can’t concede the goals that we have been doing,” Parrish said.
“Two goals early in each half and it’s criminal, the manner in which we concede goals.
“I thought we had some bright moments but probably not enough. Leo (Castledine) has a header first half and we could go in 1-1 at half-time and things might be different.
“I am pleased with how they responded and how this week has gone but deep down they have lost the game 2-0 and us, the fans, the players and the staff end up going home disappointed.
“Conceding early in the second half is a problem and we need to rectify it, whoever is in charge, and we have to be men about it and understand that things needs to be better.”
