Crewe missed the chance to move into the League Two play-off places after Ben Woodburn scored his first Salford goal in a 1-1 draw at the Mornflake Stadium.
Woodburn coolly finished past Filip Marschall in the 12th minute after Kylian Kouassi allowed Haji Mnoga’s pass to run through his legs and into the path of the former Liverpool winger.
However, Crewe deservedly drew level after 26 minutes when Ryan Cooney headed in Zac Williams’ floated cross from the left at the back post to score his first league goal.
The home side almost completed the turnaround just past the hour mark with Salford goalkeeper Jamie Jones alert to tip Williams’ cross from the left over the bar.
Jones then produced a stunning finger-tip save to keep out Shilow Tracey’s header following a free-kick from the left.
Crewe almost snatched the points deep into stoppage time only for Jones to make another excellent save to tip substitute Owen Lunt’s venomous effort over the bar.
