Davies faces an uncertain future
Davies is approaching the final six months of his contract with Bayern Munich and the left-back is no closer to agreeing an extension, with finances thought to be the main stumbling block at this point.
Free to talk to overseas clubs in just two months, Davies has seen the interest in his services ramp up. United were recently thrown into the mix, before reports named Barcelona as suitors, but leading the race for Davies' signature are long-term admirers Real Madrid.
Madrid are widely expected to win the race for Davies' signature but, according to Christian Falk, a switch to Spain is by no means a guarantee.
Indeed, Davies would be prepared to listen to United's pitch if they indicated a willingness to meet his wage demands of around €20m (£16.7m) per season.
It is believed that Davies' preference remains Madrid, but the Spanish side must present an acceptable offer to the Canada international, whose talks with Bayern have broken down after the Bundesliga leaders baulked at his financial demands.
Madrid found themselves outbid by United during the summer when the Red Devils swooped in to sign centre-back Leny Yoro who, like Davies, had been expected to head to the Santiago Bernabeu.
United offered the young defender a higher salary than Madrid officials were prepared to pay, although that stance came from the fact Yoro was entering the final year of his contract and would have been available on a free transfer in 2025, as is the case with Davies. The chance to sign the left-back without a transfer fee could see Madrid loosen the strings on their purse somewhat.
