Andy Woodman was satisfied with Bromley’s hard-earned draw against Chesterfield declaring that was more like the Bromley side he wanted to see.
An early Olufela Olomola strike had given Bromley the lead but Will Grigg’s double ensured the Spireites went into the half-time interval ahead.
That lead did not last as Michael Cheek, League Two’s top scorer, turned home from a couple yards out to ensure the points were shared.
Bromley boss Woodman said: “It was a little bit more like a Bromley team tonight.
“We had a good start, we had fire in our bellies, we made our tackles and we showed good character as a group to battle adversity when we faced it.
“It could have been three points but we are building blocks and tonight was a good building block for us.”
It was Bromley who started the game better and they were rewarded for their early endeavour with Olomola’s close-range header in the 14th minute. Danny Imray’s cross was begging for someone to get on the end of it and Olomola duly obliged with a header at the back post.
But a carefully crafted Chesterfield move saw the visitors equalise when Tom Naylor’s cross was tapped in by Grigg from six yards out.
The Spireites’ second came courtesy of a glaring Bromley error.
Grant Smith tried to shepherd a long ball back into his penalty area but Grigg beat him to it and had the simple task of tapping into an empty net to give Chesterfield the lead at the interval.
Bromley came roaring out of the traps in the second 45 and duly equalised five minutes after the restart. Ashley Charles’ free-kick was flicked on to the post by Omar Sowunmi and Cheek was on hand to slam the rebound home from close range.
Cheek missed a good chance to give Bromley the lead for the second time when a loose ball dropped to him on the half volley but he put his effort over the bar.
In the final ten minutes Chesterfield substitute James Berry forced a good save from Smith at his near post and at the other end Callum Reynolds hooked a dipping volley on to the roof of the net.
However neither side could find a winner.
Spireites manager Paul Cook was also satisfied with the effort shown by his side.
He said: “Bromley has always been a tough place to come.
“I’m a bit disappointed but also pleased with the point.
“We had some injuries that we had to contend with ahead of tonight which affected us somewhat but all in all it was a fair result on the night.”
