Manager Stuart Maynard was full of praise for Jodi Jones after Notts County produced a stunning turnaround to come back from two goals down to beat Bromley 4-2 and move top of League Two.
Having fallen two goals behind as early as the sixth minute through strikes from Michael Cheek and Ben Thompson, the Magpies scored four without reply to seal the three points.
Jones halved the deficit in the first half from the penalty spot before goals from Dan Crowley, Alassana Jatta and Jones again in the second half completed a brilliant comeback.
Maynard said: “We gave away two silly goals in the first half and took a bit of time to adapt to proceedings.
“We made a tactical tweak to get more bodies in the box in the second half and Jatta really helped with that.
“Jodi Jones was brilliant today. We’ve wanted him to add goals to his game, he has four league goals and three assists this season.
“His numbers are incredible so we just have to keep building on that with all the other talented players we have in the group.”
A frenetic opening quarter hour saw three goals light up the game.
Bromley went two goals to the good from their first two shots on target.
Cheek made and finished the first, laying off for Idris Odutayo before stabbing home the low cross.
Ben Thompson then marked his first start for Bromley with his first goal. Goalkeeper Alex Bass’ loose pass was seized on for Thompson to shoot home from 18 yards.
However, the Magpies halved the deficit in the 13th minute when Jones was fouled in the penalty area and he picked himself up to score from the spot.
The second 45 started at a similar pace to the first half.
Crowley and Jatta were denied inside the opening 60 seconds but when the ball was recycled to Crowley, his deflected effort levelled proceedings.
The turnaround was complete nine minutes later, second-half substitute Jatta running on to Crowley’s through ball to shoot across Grant Smith.
Bromley pressed for a way back into the game and came close when Byron Webster saw Bass tip his volley over the bar.
However, it was always Notts who looked most likely to add another goal and it came through Jones.
A breakaway from a corner saw Jones cut inside before shooting in off the post from 20 yards.
Bromley manager Andy Woodman was rueful in his reflections at full-time.
He said: “We started great, took an early lead and executed everything we worked at but the penalty was a big moment.
“It wasn’t a penalty and it changed the complexion of the game. That said we were poor in the second half.
“We defended poorly and our success has always been built on clean sheets.
“We are conceding goals a little too easily for me so it is something we need to go back to the drawing board on.”
