Jimmy Thelin would not be drawn on Bojan Miovski’s future despite the striker appearing to bid farewell to supporters following Aberdeen’s 3-1 victory over St Mirren.
The 25-year-old North Macedonia international, who has been strongly linked with a move to LaLiga side Girona, started the game on the bench before being brought on in stoppage time for what looked to be his last appearance for the club.
The Pittodrie faithful stayed behind in numbers following the final whistle to serenade their hero, and Thelin said: “We can’t say what will happen in the future but there were a lot of emotions and how we celebrated after the game was good.”
Thelin was delighted the Dons “found a way to win” as they maintained his 100 per cent record as boss.
Aberdeen had started brightly but Saints eased their way into the game, although they will be disappointed with the manner of Pape Habib Gueye’s header.
The Dons will also be disappointed with the calamitous equaliser scored by Toyosi Olusanya, but they recovered to lead again through Jamie McGrath’s curled effort, with substitute Vicente Besuijen netting a late header to seal a sixth consecutive win in all competitions.
Thelin said: “There were a lot of emotions and a lot of good feelings. It was an exciting game but then St Mirren score in the last second of the first half, which can be difficult.
“The supporters backed us at half-time and the players remained calm and trusted the way we have to perform together. We still have parts to improve but they found a way to win, so I’m really happy for the players and the supporters.
“The players are training hard and we need a strong squad and a strong group of players in terms of character.”
St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson admitted it was his side’s own mistakes that led to their downfall.
“I thought we were in total control of the whole game and only had ourselves to blame for losing,” he said.
“We were in control of the ball for the first two goals and the third was just poor defending. I don’t think Aberdeen cut us open and they didn’t create loads for the home side, but if you make those mistakes you don’t deserve to win football matches.”
Robinson felt his side were full of energy despite their Europa Conference League qualifier on Thursday night, adding: “At this level if you make mistakes – and I make plenty of them – you get punished for it, so credit to Aberdeen for doing that and managing the game well afterwards.
“We have to learn from our mistakes and then concentrate our minds on the Brann game.”
