According to Spanish outlet Fichajes.net, Real Madrid have set their sights on Tottenham's Argentinian star Cristian Romero should they fail to land primary target Josko Gvardiol.

The 24-year-old centre-back's performance since joining Tottenham from Atalanta last summer has been nothing short of sensational. He quickly established himself as a key figure in Antonio Conte's squad, impressing with his reading of the game, physicality, and technical abilities.
Romero's excellent form has also translated into his performances for the Argentine national team, with his outstanding displays at the 2022 World Cup which his nation eventually won, earning him plaudits from around the globe.
It's no surprise that the Real Madrid hierarchy has identified the player as a possible addition to their squad. The club is in need of a top-level centre-back, and the Argentine would be a great fit for their system. His partnership with Eder Militao would provide Los Blancos with a solid defensive pairing for years to come.
The North London club though will be determined to keep hold of Romero and build their team around him as they look to challenge for major honours in the future. The Argentine's contract with Spurs runs until 2027, which means the club holds all the cards when it comes to his future.
Tottenham will not want Romero to leave
While the player may be interested in a move to a bigger club, the decision ultimately lies with Tottenham, who will be looking to extract a substantial transfer fee if they decide to part ways with Romero.
From Tottenham's perspective, losing Romero would be a major blow to their plans for the future. The player has become a fan favourite at the club, and his performances have been instrumental in their recent success.
