La FIFA paga a los clubes una tarifa diaria por cada uno de los jugadores que participan en la Copa del Mundo. Sólo para la fase de grupos, se desembolsan más de 150 millones de euros a 384 clubes de fútbol de todo el mundo. Este informe es el resultado de los cálculos realizados por del principal proveedor de crédito a corto plazo, Vexcash. El mismo evaluó la compensación del llamado Programa de Beneficios de la Copa del Mundo para cada club. La conclusión final: la mayor parte del dinero va para la Primera División y, dentro de la misma, el Real Madrid es el club que recibe la suma más alta.

La FIFA paga 7,236 euros por día por cada jugador participante. Los pagos comenzaron el 31 de mayo y finalizaron un día después de la última jornada. Importante: si un jugador de la Copa del Mundo ha cambiado su club una o más veces desde 2016, los clubes anteriores recibirán un tercio proporcional del pago. Esta regulación también se aplica a las transferencias actuales.
El recién coronado campeón de la Liga de Campeones, el Real Madrid, de entre los 384 clubes es el que se lleva los pagos de compensación por jugador más altos. Recibe un total de 3,35 millones. Siguiendo con el conteo, el Madrid es seguido de cerca por dos clubes de la liga inglesa. El campeón inglés Manchester City que obtiene cerca de 3,2 millones de euros. Y, luego, el ganador de la FA Cup: el FC Chelsea que abraza 98 millones de euros en pagos de compensación.
El campeón español, sin embargo, quedó en cuarto lugar: el FC Barcelona recibe alrededor de 2,7 millones de euros por Messi, Iniesta y compañía. El Atlético Madrid ganador de la Liga Europea ya no está representado en el top 10 internacional. Incluso si los italianos no participan en la Copa del Mundo, los clubes aún pueden esperar ingresos adicionales. La FIFA distribuye alrededor de 12,68 millones de euros (cuarto lugar) a Juventus and Co. Francia sigue en el quinto lugar con 12,29 millones de euros. Arabia Saudita sorprendentemente ocupa el octavo lugar con 5,3 millones de euros.
