Real Madrid will announce the signing of Kylian Mbappe before Euro 2024 begins, despite the forward's ongoing contract at Paris Saint-Germain.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The France forward remains contracted to the Ligue 1 champions until June 30, but Madrid plan on unveiling him as their player before then, Fabrizio Romano reports. However, the capital club's full attention is on the Champions League final taking place on Saturday, meaning the agreement with Mbappe will not be announced this week.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Madrid have long been chasing the signing of the 25-year-old attacker and his move to the Spanish capital has been imminent since it was confirmed earlier this year that he would be leaving PSG at the end of the season after his contract expires.
WHAT DESCHAMPS SAID
With the football world waiting on confirmation of Mbappe's move to Madrid, there have been concerns that the ongoing speculation will cause trouble among the France squad ahead of Euro 2024, but head coach Didier Deschamps is not concerned.
"[The timing] doesn’t depend on me. [Real Madrid and Mbappe] will decide when to officialise it," he said at a press conference. "If possible, I will adapt in relation to the squad and the France national team."
WHAT NEXT FOR MBAPPE?
The former Monaco star will watch on as his future side compete for the Champions League trophy this Saturday when they take on Borussia Dortmund at Wembley. After his deal with the club is announced, he will turn his attention to preparing for Euro 2024 with his fellow Les Bleus stars.
