Manchester United-linked Thomas Tuchel is now in talks to stay at Bayern Munich, despite announcing his exit earlier this year.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Per The Times, Tuchel has entered negotiations with Bayern over staying in Germany, despite announcing his exit earlier this year. Bayern have been searching for a replacement but have thus far been unable to reach an agreement with any prospective successors, and senior players at the club are pushing for them to simply keep the ex-Chelsea manager.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Bayern have lurched from one rejection to another in their managerial search, having targeted the likes of Crystal Palace's Oliver Glasner, former boss Hansi Flick, along with Manchester United's Ten Hag. Of course, Tuchel was seen as a potential replacement for the Dutchman - opening the door to a swap - but it now appears that there may be a shocking U-turn.
DID YOU KNOW?
Tuchel's departure was announced in February amid a season in which Bayern have failed to win a trophy for the first time since 2012. However, despite Die Roten's collective struggles, the club have held talks with him to gauge his interest in staying, and his case is said to have been boosted by a strong, if ultimately unsuccessful, showing over two legs against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals.
WHAT NEXT?
It remains to be seen if Bayern will be able to convince Tuchel to stay as he has previously dropped hints about being open to a return to England. Nevertheless, the club desperately need some clarity heading into the summer.
