La Liga president Javier Tebas has claimed that Real Madrid are likely to sign PSG forward Kylian Mbappe ahead of the 2024-25 season
WHAT HAPPENED?
Mbappe has been the subject of much speculation in recent months, with the Parisian forward's contract due to expire in June. While his future destination has not been made clear, he seems set to choose between Paris and Madrid.
WHAT JAVIER TEBAS SAID
In an interview, Tebas weighed in on Mbappe's future, suggesting that he thinks Madrid will bring in the France captain: "I think high. It's a personal opinion. 26-year-old player... It will depend on Real Madrid, the president and what he is willing to bet on. Real Madrid must think that the arrival of Bellingham has made them already have a star, Vinicius is another. If the player wants to go to Madrid... More than 50%."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Tebas has repratedly vouched for Madrid to sign Mbappe in the past. He claimed that Madrid will be able to make a deal as far back as March 2023 and has ridiculed the Frenchman for opting to stay at PSG in 2022, dubbing Ligue 1 "not competitive."
WHAT NEXT FOR MBAPPE?
The forward has remained coy on his future, and admitted that he has not made a final choice about where he will play next season. PSG, meanwhile, have a lot to play for, and will face Strasbourg in Ligue 1 this weekend — with Coupe de France and Champions League ties soon to follow.
