Fans think new Tottenham arrival Radu Dragusin already "regrets" his transfer.
Spurs reached an agreement with Genoa to sign the 21-year-old this week. The north Londoners will pay £25.9million plus £5.6million in add-ons for the Romanian centre-back.
His arrival in north London comes despite a late attempt by Bayern Munich to hijack the deal. The German giants reportedly bid an improved offer of £26.7m but Dragusin stepped in and decided to join Spurs, having given the club his word.
Dragusin's agent Florin Manea revealed he was "mind-blown" at turning down Bayern, having said in a statement: "The decision was made this morning at 8am. We were determined to go to Tottenham, but the offer came from Bayern, so we stopped.
"I was on my way to the airport. But I said we have to think carefully and evaluate. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs. I can't believe we turned Bayern down
"But that's the decision. I took it with Radu and his family. I informed Bayern that this was the decision, that they came in the last metres and that it was difficult to change our decision.
"Maybe in the future we will get there. We are a bit mind-blown. To turn down Bayern... but it was ultimately what Radu and his family wanted. He is happy. We're going to Tottenham
But a shortened version of the quote posted on X by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano sparked outrage as fans of rival Premier League clubs took it to mean the player only signed for Spurs because he had to, claiming he already "regrets" it.
One user tweeted: "Regretting the move even before the announcement is hilarious," while another wrote: "They are already regretting it."
A third pointed out: "Sounds like regret," while a fourth trolled: "Lmaooo he's basically saying damn it was the wrong choice." Others chimed in by adding: "So Spursy," and: "Physically laughing."
The rest of Manea's statement read: "Of course, Radu also thought about Bayern's offer. We made the decision in the morning. It's hard to make such a choice.
"Bayern strongly wanted him, but the official offer only came last night. There was more money from Bayern , but he said that this is the right step for his career. We stayed up all night to think. I did not sleep at all."
