Bayern Munich are refusing to let go of their dream of signing Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo as they look to strengthen their defence.
- Bayern looking to add Uruguayan to defence
- Tuchel sees Araujo as key defender for project
- Coach has already spoken with the defender
WHAT HAPPENED?
The German champions have long coveted Araujo and Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel considers the defender to be the ideal signing for his side. Tuchel even spoke with the defender on the phone recently to try to convince him to move to Germany, however it appears that Araujo wishes to stay at Barcelona - at least this winter. This will not stop Bayern from tempting Barcelona's resolve, with Florian Plettenberg reporting they are insistent that Araujo is their key target.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Bayern have been unable to truly match their usual glorious standards this season, sitting in second place behind Xabi Alonso's high-flying Bayer Leverkusen. Despite adding Kim Min-jae in the summer, the German side believe further defensive improvements are needed - and they come in the form of Araujo.
DID YOU KNOW?
No Uruguayan international has ever played for Bayern Munich and should Araujo sign for the Bavarian giants, he would become the first.
WHAT NEXT FOR ARAUJO?
Araujo and Barcelona have been struggling in La Liga, languishing behind Real Madrid and Girona. The Uruguayan has struggled for fitness and will be hoping him and club can bounce back in the new year.
