Manchester United are reportedly keen on bringing a former Chelsea striker to Old Trafford.
Manchester United are weighing up a January move for ex-Chelsea forward Timo Werner in a bid to solve their attacking issues, according to reports. The Red Devils have only scored 16 league goals in 13 matches in the Premier League this season, making them the least prolific team in the division's top half by some distance.
Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford and Antony have scored just twice between them so far this season, leaving United lagging behind their Premier League rivals in front of goal. It seems as though Erik ten Hag is prioritising the addition of a new striker in January in his efforts to fix the problem, with former Chelsea ace Werner said to be among the Dutchman's targets.
United have already reached out to RB Leipzig to discuss Werner's availability in advance of the January window, according to Sky Germany. The report states that the Red Devils are yet to make a formal offer but are seriously considering a move for the 27-year-old at the turn of the year.
Leipzig are reportedly willing to sanction Werner's exit if he wishes to leave the club, with the striker having fallen out of favour in recent weeks. However, it is said that his current preference would be to stay at Leipzig until the summer despite being unhappy with his playing situation.

It remains to be seen if Werner will end up changing his mind between now and January, with his place in the Germany side under threat ahead of next summer's Euros. He was not called up by Julian Nagelsmann for the recent international matches against Turkey and Austria and is now facing a tricky battle to regain his spot in the squad.
Werner has also been linked with a potential move to Fulham, who have struggled for goals this season after selling Aleksandar Mitrovic to Al-Hilal over the summer. West Ham are thought to be another side with a keen eye on Werner but only time will tell where he will be playing his club football at the end of the January window.
United, meanwhile, will be desperately hoping for Werner to bring his shooting boots if he ends up moving to Old Trafford this winter. It will be crucial for the Red Devils to start producing the goods up front in order to relieve the growing pressure on Ten Hag's shoulders, with the Dutchman having already urged his players to be more clinical in attack.
"We don’t take advantage from our attacking transition moments and we should do because we have the players in our team who can do that," he said last month.
“We’ve paid some attention to it and this has to grow, it has to progress, then games will become more easy. The co-operation has to click and we showed this week some examples where we have many overload positions and going to the opponents’ goal and we don’t net or even hit the target. We should do better."
