El capitán de Portugal alcanzará esa cifra ante Islandia y no vislumbra el final
Cristiano Ronaldo, que si juega este martes ante Islandia llegará a los 200 partidos con Portugal, dijo que no renunciará a la selección lusa y que su camino "no acabará en breve" porque sigue siendo un activo para el equipo, con goles y "buenas exhibiciones".
"Mientras me sienta motivado y que a todas las personas que están a mi lado le gusta mi presencia, mi participación y mi liderazgo, no renunciaré a la selección", señaló en rueda de prensa en Reikiavik, donde este martes Portugal se enfrenta a Islandia en la fase de clasificación para la Eurocopa 2024.
El delantero del Al-Nassr saudí aseguró que su rendimiento sigue siendo bueno y que puede "ayudar, haciendo goles y buenas exhibiciones", e insistió: "Estaré aquí hasta que crea que debo".
"Hacer 200 internacionalizaciones no es cualquier cosa. Demuestra el amor que tengo por jugar con la selección. Quiero seguir jugando, alegrando a mi familia, a mis amigos, a todos los portugueses, porque ha sido un camino largo pero que no acabará en breve", insistió.
Además, no descartó nuevos títulos con la selección portuguesa, tras ganar la Eurocopa de 2016 y la Liga de Naciones de 2019. "Estoy alcanzando bastantes récords y eso me deja feliz y con la ambición de querer todavía hacer mucha historia por Portugal. Tengo la esperanza de que podemos ganar todavía más títulos", subrayó.
Aseguró que, tras 20 años jugando con las "quinas", todavía siente "nerviosismo" cuando escucha el himno, aunque su experiencia ha cambiado algunas cosas.
"Hay otros factores que son más importantes, por el hecho de ser también capitán, de tener esta generación de jugadores tan jóvenes e intentar ser un ejemplo", destacó Cristiano, que siente que todavía tiene "mucho" que dar. "Me gusta vivir sólo el presente. El futuro sólo Dios lo sabe. Pero el momento es bueno y quiero continuar", reiteró.
200 PARTIDOS CON PORTUGAL
Cristiano consideró que sería "excelente" culminar su partido 200, un nuevo récord que suma a su trayectoria, con un gol, pero aseguró que lo "importante" es la victoria de Portugal y su camino hacia la Eurocopa.
"Sabemos que es un partido difícil, con una buena selección, que juega ante su público. Pero tenemos nuestras armas y estoy seguro de que vamos a hacerlo bien", dijo.
Cuestionado sobre si jugar en la Liga saudí le dificulta seguir presente en la selección, Cristiano fue tajante. "No interfiere en nada porque desde que juego en Arabia Saudí vengo al equipo nacional. Jugué tres partidos, por lo que no afecta. Deberías hacerle esta pregunta al entrenador. Estoy muy feliz", zanjó.
Cristiano jugó su primer partido con Portugal a los 18 años, un amistoso contra Kazajistán en agosto de 2003. Desde entonces suma 199 encuentros y 122 goles.
