Los malos resultados y el 3-0 contra Estados Unidos, los detonantes de la decisión
Diego Cocca fue destituido como seleccionador de México este lunes, a menos de una semana del debut del Tri en la Copa Oro, y en su lugar fue nombrado provisionalmente Jaime Lozano.
El comisionado presidente de la Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF), Juan Carlos Rodríguez, adoptó así su primera decisión trascendental desde que asumió el cargo, hace menos de un mes.
Cocca asumió como seleccionador en febrero pasado, pero los decepcionantes resultados precipitaron su salida en especial la goleada por 3-0 sufrida la semana pasada ante Estados Unidos en las semifinales de la Liga de Naciones de la Concacaf.
Sin posibilidades de disputar el título, México debió conformarse con un tercer lugar tras vencer el domingo a Panamá por la mínima en un partido que apenas maquilló la fragilidad del proyecto del técnico argentino.
“La última semana he encontrado muchas deficiencias en planeación, logística, funcionamiento y falta de liderazgo en muchos niveles. Un partido contra Estados Unidos se puede perder. Lo que no se puede aceptar es la forma que sucedió, se renunció a ganar desde el primer momento con decisiones de logística que friccionaron al grupo”, explicó el directivo Juan Carlos Rodríguez.
En un vídeo, Rodríguez dijo que se le falló a los hinchas, que en el encuentro por el tercer lugar de la Liga de Naciones, en el triunfo del domingo pasado de México sobre Panamá, mostraron su descontento con una baja entrada al estadio de Las Vegas Raiders.
Además de la destitución de Cocca la Federación Mexicana de Fútbol prescindió de Rodrigo Ares de Parga, encargado de la coordinación todas las selecciones nacionales.
El entrenador Jaime Lozano, a quien se le ha encomendado provisionalmente el rol de seleccionador absoluto, condujo a México a la conquista de la medalla de bronce en los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio.
Lozano conducirá a México durante la Copa Oro, cuyo debut se producirá este domingo frente a Honduras. “Le agradezco a Jaime haber aceptado dirigir al equipo de aquí al final del torneo. Los jugadores te conocen y te quieren bien, Jaime. Varios ellos formaron parte del proceso de Tokio", manifestó Rodríguez.
Cocca llegó al banquillo de la selección mexicana en sustitución de su compatriota Gerardo Martino, quien llevó al equipo al Mundial de Catar, donde cumplió una decepcionante campaña.
La era de Cocca duró poco menos de cuatro meses y siete partidos, que se resumen con victorias sobre Surinam y Panamá en la Liga de Naciones, y un triunfo sobre Guatemala en un partido amistoso.
Con Cocca el Tri cayó por goleada ante Estados Unidos y sendos empates como el mismo equipo de las Barras y las Estrellas y la selección de Jamaica.
