A sus 47 años, el colegiado del Comité Madrileño colgará el silbato en el Fiorentina-West Ham con la Conference League en juego
El colegiado del Comité Madrileño Carlos Del Cerro Grande acabará mañana su carrera en la final de la Conference League entre la Fiorentina italiana y el West Ham inglés en Praga después de veinte años de carrera en el arbitraje, que define como "una universidad de vida".
"Es una universidad de vida. Aprendes a tomar decisiones y a confiar en tí mismo. Volveré al arbitraje en un futuro... es imposible imaginar que no estoy relacionado con ello de alguna manera", dijo en declaraciones publicadas en uefa.com este martes, un día antes de su último encuentro oficial.
Del Cerro, de 47 años, comentó que un "árbitro debe mostrar coraje y especialmente fuerza mental", además de "ser autocrítico" porque "no puedes mejorar si no eres honesto contigo mismo".
"Tienes que ser humilde y tener los pies en el suelo. Te puedes sentir como un rey después de un buen partido y entonces el siguiente no sale tan bien, por eso siempre es mejor tener perspectiva. Tu próximo partido siempre es un nuevo reto", apuntó.
Treinta años de carrera
Del Cerro, que ha prolongado su carrera hasta ahora porque fue seleccionado para la última Eurocopa, igual que Antonio Mateu Lahoz, ya que en España la edad límite de los árbitros en activo son 45 años, empezó a dirigir partidos en 1993 y en 2010 pasó a Primera división, tres años antes de convertirse en internacional.
Esta temporada ha dirigido cinco partidos de la Champions League, incluido el de vuelta de cuartos de final entre Inter de Milán y Benfica, y uno de la Conference League.

Mañana encabezará el equipo arbitral de la final en la capital checa, en el que contará en el VAR con Juan Martínez Munuera, con Jesús Gil Manzano como cuarto árbitro y con Guadalupe Porras Ayuso, que debutó en la Champions el pasado septiembre en el Nápoles-Liverpool, como asistente, junto a Pau Cebrián Debis, además de Alejandro José Hernández Hernández y el portugués Tiago Bruno Lopes Martins como asistentes de vídeo.
