La próxima temporada no sólo tendrá una calendario distinto en la Liga española, como ya os hemos adelantado en el Mundo Deportivo. También la gran competición de clubes, la Liga de Campeones, tendrá un formato muy distinto condicionado por el Mundial de Qatar desde mediados de noviembre hasta el 18 de diciembre.
Esto obliga a adelantar la fase de grupos siete días a la fecha habitual de la máxima competiciones de clubes, empezando por la presente temporada 2021-2022 que comenzó el martes 14 de septiembre. Así la UEFA tiene previsto que esta fase arranque el 6-7 de septiembre. Serán seis martes o miércoles hasta el 2 de noviembre donde está prevista la disputa de los últimos encuentros. Apenas doce días antes de la fecha límite del 14 de noviembre que ha fijado FIFA para que todos los internacionales estén con sus selecciones antes del arranque del Mundial de Qatar y cuyo partido inicial está fechado el 21 de noviembre.
En concreto, dos serán las jornadas que se disputarán en septiembre (la primera el 6-7 y la segunda el 13-14). En octubre es donde está previsto la disputa del grueso de esta primera parte de la competición. Serán tres los miércoles utilizados por UEFA (la tercera jornada el 4-5 de octubre, la cuarta el 11-12 y la quinta el 25-26). La sexta jornada, como decimos, se repartirá entre el 1 y 2 de noviembre.
La competición continental no regresará, como viene siendo costumbre, hasta mediados del mes de febrero. Entre finales de este mes y mediados de marzo quedarán decididos los octavos de final; siguiendo la misma estructura de la actual temporada y para equipararse con la Europa League.
Los cuartos de final se retrasarán una semana conforme a las fecha de la temporada 2021-2022. La ida está prevista para el 11 - 13 de abril del 2023 y la vuelta siete días más tarde. Situación que provocará un retraso también en las semifinales. Tanto la ida (9-10) como la vuelta (16-17) se jugará completamente el mes de mayo a diferencia de la presente temporada donde la ida está fechada para 26-27 de abril. La final del 2023 de la Liga de Campeones también se retrasa una semana respecto a la actual temporada. Si este año UEFA ha fijado el sábado 28 de mayo para la gran cita en el Estadio Sant Dennis en París, en el 2023 no será hasta el 10 de junio cuando los dos finalistas se vean las caras en Estambul.
