El goleador Juan Cruz Mascia guio este martes a Plaza Colonia a un triunfo por 2-0 sobre The Stongest, el primero de su historia en la Copa Libertadores que lo deja más cerca de la Fase 3. Mascia marcó su 'doblete' en el estadio Centenario de Montevideo en la primera parte del encuentro. La serie entre el equipo uruguayo y el boliviano se definirá el 1 de marzo en La Paz.
Con presión alta y buen juego colectivo, Plaza Colonia dominó desde el comienzo un partido que se le facilitó por la expulsión de Cristian Esparza a los 33 minutos.
Antes, después de un saque de esquina y de un cabezazo de Leandro Suhr que encontró una enorme respuesta del portero Germán Viscarra, Mascia conectó el balón y decretó el primer tanto cuando se había jugado un poco más de un cuarto de hora.
Los pupilos de Eduardo Espinel mantuvieron la presión sobre el equipo paceño. Espinel transformó en 2016 a Plaza Colonia en el 'Leicester uruguayo' al ganar el Torneo Clausura al mismo tiempo que el equipo inglés sumaba una victoria tras otra.

A los 39 minutos, luego de que Luciano Ursino tocara el balón con su mano dentro del área, Mascia marcó de penalti el 2-0, resultado con el que concluyó una primera parte en la que su rival solo se aproximó con un buen disparo de Rodrigo Amaral.
En el comienzo del segundo tiempo, el árbitro Bruno Arleu sancionó un nuevo penalti para el Plaza Colonia que esta vez fue rematado por Nicolás Dibble. Sin embargo, el cambio de ejecutante no salió bien para el local porque el disparo del número 11 fue parado por el portero Viscarra.
Sobre el final, el local se aproximo nuevamente a la portería rival, aunque la falta de puntería no le permitió ampliar el tanteador, que se cerró con un 2-0.
