No hay quien pare al Arsenal. El equipo de Mikel Arteta, que es cuarto en la Premier, sumó su cuarta victoria consecutiva, esta vez en la Carabao Cup, la Copa de la Liga inglesa, al arrollar al histórico Sunderland, ahora en la League 1, la tercera división inglesa.
No hizo falta que el entrenador vasco pusiera en liza a su mejor 'once' para ganar, golear y plantarse en las semifinales de esta competición. Si había alguna duda de la superioridad 'gunner' quedó disipada, especialmente en la segunda parte del partido disputado en el Emirates Stadium. La pareja Nketiah-Nicolas Pépé se bastó para destrozar a la defensa visitante y enterrar las esperanzas de un rival que fue valiente pero que acabó rindiéndose al potencial de los locales.
El Sunderland arrancó sin titubeos, consciente de que poco tenía que perder, y asustó en los compases iniciales con algún acercamiento peligroso a los dominios del meta Leno. Fue un espejismo. El Arsenal, a la primera que tuvo, no perdonó. Así, en el minuto 17, un rechace del portero Burge fue aprovechado por Nketiah para superarle, rematando con el muslo el balón al fondo de la red. Diez minutos después sería Pépé el que firmaría el segundo de la noche, en su caso tras culminar un perfecto serviicio de Cédric Soares.
Parecía que ya estaba vendido buena parte del pescado, pero el Sunderland, en una contra, se volvió a meter en el partido. Lo hizo en el minuto 31, cuando Broadhead superó a Leno 'picándole' el balón en su salida. Antes de que se llegara al descanso, la lesión del delantero, que tuvo que ser sustituido, fue el principio del fin para el equipo visitante.
Tras el paso por los vestuarios el Arsenal fue un vendaval ofensivo. Sólo habían transcurrido cuatro minutos cuando un 'pase de la muerte' de Nuno Tavares lo transformó en gol Nketiah (3-1). El Sunderand ya no tuvo poder de reacción y los 'gunners' empezaron a jugar a placer, haciendo disfrutar a su afición, que enloqueció con el 4-1. Llegó en el minuto 57, cuando Pépé se fue de su marcador tras hacerle un caño y su centro lo remató a gol Nketiak con un toque de espuela.
La guinda llegó en el tiempo de añadido, cuando el joven (18 años) Charly Patiño, un jugador de origen gallego internacional en todas las categorías inferiores de Inglaterra y que debutaba con el primer equipo del Arsenal, firmaba la manita tras otra asistencia de Pépé.
Fue la guinda a un gran partido del conjunto de Arteta en el Emirates, que vuelve a disfrutar con un equipo que aspira a volver a ganar algún título esta temporada.
