Con el cambio de la Copa de Europa a la Champions League llegó el fútbol moderno. Lo terminó por confirmar la Ley Bosman, que permitió a los clubes fichar a todos los jugadores europeos que quisiesen. Las diferencias entre las grandes potencias económicas y los clubes más modestos cada vez son más insalvables y parece obligatorio gastar una millonada cada verano si se quiere llegar a los meses de primavera con opciones.
Año tras año aumentan las cifras de los traspasos y las fichas son más altas. El fútbol cada vez genera más, ingresa más y, como es lógico, gasta más. Por ello, se necesita una gran inversión en fichajes para poder pelear con los mejores. Por supuesto, fichar no garantiza absolutamente nada. Un ejemplo claro es este PSG, el cual registró el pasado mes de agosto el fichaje más caro de la historia del fútbol y no ha logrado pasar de octavos de final.
En esta situación, parece increíble que un equipo pueda salir campeón de la Champions League habiendo gastado menos de lo ingresado. Es el caso de este Real Madrid, que no solo tiene un balance positivo en fichajes esta temporada sino que ha conseguido ser el campeón de la Champions con mejor relación ventas-fichajes de la historia de la competición.
Otros campeones como el Olympique de Marsella de la primera edición (16,10 millones de beneficio), el Milán de 2007 (15,65 millones) o el Inter de Mourinho (15 millones) eran los equipos más rentables hasta esta temporada. Otros como el Barça de Rijkaard o la Juventus de 1996 también consiguieron levantar el trofeo de rey de Europa con un balance positivo, pero ninguno se acerca, ni remotamente, a los 87,5 millones de beneficio que ha registrado el Real Madrid en esta 2017/18.
Siempre según datos de Transfermarkt, el Madrid ha gastado esta temporada 40,5 millones de euros en Theo Hernández (24M) y Dani Ceballos (16,5M). En cambio, ha ingresado un total de 128 millones gracias a Morata (66M), Danilo (30M), Mariano (8M), Diego Llorente (7M), Burgui (3M) y el coste de las cesiones de James (13M) y Coentrao (1M).
Sorprende un dato así en un club como el Real Madrid, acostumbrado a ser de los clubes que más ingresan del mundo. Hay que remontarse a 2014 para encontrar el último gran fichaje del Madrid, con James por 75 millones. Sin duda, pone en valor la planificación deportiva del club en la última década y los aciertos en fichajes para un medio-largo plazo.
