Le sustituirá al mando de la dirección deportiva Julian Ward, su segundo durante estos años.
Edwards, que llegó al Liverpool en noviembre de 2011 y asumió el cargo de director deportivo en 2016, ha sido una figura clave en la transformación de un equipo que por entonces no podía aspirar a recuperar la corona del fútbol inglés y que ha ganado la Champions League en 2019 y su primera liga en 30 años en 2020.
