El Atalanta tuvo más problemas de los previstos para ganar al colista Cagliari (1-2), pero prosigue su escalada en la Serie A y, tras cinco jornadas invicto, desbancó provisionalmente del cuarto lugar a la Roma, que mañana visita al Venezia.
El Atalanta abrió pronto el marcador gracias a una buena jugada colectiva en el minuto 6. Duván Zapata abrió a Davide Zappacosta, cuyo centro raso al segundo palo lo empujó a la red Mario Pasalic a puerta vacía.
El gol acentuó la superioridad y control del partido por parte del Atalanta y Duván Zapata, siempre un incordio para las defensas rivales, se plantó ante Alesio Cragno tras mostrar su habilidad en moverse en espacios cortos, pero el meta argentino le tapó el remate cuando el gol ya se cantaba (25').
Joao Pedro mete de nuevo en el partido al Cagliari
Pero el Cagliari, que estaba protagonizando un discreto partido, volvió a recurrir a su goleador Joao Pedro en su primera llegada para empatar por sorpresa. Diego Godín le puso un balón largo a la contra al delantero brasileño, que llegó al área en carrera y su chut, desviado ligeramente por Merih Demiral, se coló por el palo corto de Juan Musso (27'). El 1-1 provocó dudas en el Atalanta, el partido se igualó un tanto pero antes del descanso Duván Zapata volvió a adelantar a su equipo con su séptimo gol en un excelente movimiento en el área. El colombiano recibió de espaldas de Teun Koopmeiners, se zafó dándose la media vuelta de un Godín inusualmente blando y con la zurda batió a Cragno pese a que éste tocó el balón (43').
Penalti que anula el VAR
En la segunda mitad el Atalanta vio el triunfo más cerca a la hora de juego cuando el árbitro indicó penalti por una caída de Pasilic ante Andrea Carboni, pero a instancias del VAR revisó la acción en el monitor y rectificó su decisión.
El Atalanta mantuvo el control ante un Cagliari más competiivo, pero no cerró el partido. A ello colaboró Cragno al responder con un paradón al disparo con la zurda a la escuadra del recién entrado Josip Ilicic tras un buen recorte en el área (77').
Finalmente el Atalanta amarró el triunfo ante un rival claramente inferior y se mantiene en la lucha por clasificarse una temporada más para la Champions League, su gran objetivo ante la gran diferencia de puntos (9) que le separa del líder Nápoles.
