Paso de gigante del equipo de Unai Emery gracias a los goles de Capoue y Danjuma ante el colista Young Boys. Los suizos, a los que les anularon un gol, dieron la cara hasta el final
El Villarreal olvidó sus penas de LaLiga Santander con una restauradora y sufrida victoria en la Champions League ante un digno Young Boys que no demostró su condición de colista y que se lo puso muy difícil a los de Unai Emery. Los goles de Capoue y Danjuma hicieron emerger al Submarino, colíder del Grupo F, empatado a siete puntos con el Manchester United. El conjunto ‘groguet’ dio un paso de gigante para estar en octavos de final.
La presencia de Mario Gaspar y Pedraza en los laterales, en sustitución de Estupiñán y Aurier (no inscrito en la competición), además de Boulaye Dia en ataque, en lugar de Moi Gómez, fueron las novedades del Villarreal en La Cerámica.
Ambos equipos afrontaron el inicio del encuentro más pendientes de no perder el balón que de crear ocasiones. Las defensas se impusieron en unos compases iniciales en los que la mejor oportunidad llegó en el minuto 7 con un disparo de Coquelin al que respondió con una buena estirada el guardameta visitante Faivre. Aunque más clara fue la ocasión del Young Boys en el 25’ con una volea cruzada muy peligrosa de Fassnacht a la que le faltó precisión para batir a Gerónimo Rulli.
Los visitantes llegaban con suma facilidad al área del Villarreal, que volvió a estar cerca del gol con un chut del lateral Alfonso Pedraza que rozó la base del poste. Finalmente, el cuadro de Emery cobró ventaja en el marcador en una acción de estrategia. Parejo metió un balón en el área, Mario Gaspar prolongó en el segundo palo y Capoue entró con todo para batir, a la segunda, a Faivre, que había rechazado el primer remate de cabeza del francés. Fue el único error que el equipo suizo cometió en defensa en la primera mitad.
El Submarino, que fue de menos a más, se puso por delante sin hacer un juego brillante, aunque el 1-0 le permitió tranquilizarse y ganar en confianza y clarividencia.
Tras el descanso, el Young Boys salió decidido a poner las tablas y estuvo a punto de lograrlo con un testarazo de Fassnacht que Rulli sacó con una mano milagrosa.
Gol anulado a los suizos
En el 55’, el colegiado anuló un gol a los helvéticos a instancias del VAR. Fassnacht batió de cabeza a Rulli, que había salvado de primeras la ocasión visitante. Sin embargo, el tanto no subió al marcador ya que el neerlandés Serdar Gözübüyük, tras revisar la jugada en el monitor de campo, entendió que el central Bürgy había estorbado a Rulli en el remate a bocajarro de Fassnacht.
La diana invalidada fue todo un alivio para un Villarreal al que los de David Wagner pusieron contra las cuerdas. En el 58’, el Young Boys gozó de otra clarísima oportunidad para empatar con un latigazo de Rieder que dio en el lateral de la red.
Poco después, el Villarreal, que ofrecía muchas dudas y muy poco en ataque, se volvía a librar de una buena. Pau Torres cometió penalti sobre Elia, pero no se sancionó por fuera de juego previo. Los de Emery le vieron las orejas al lobo y apretaron en la recta final. Un fuerte disparo de Danjuma y un testarazo de Trigueros los abortó Faivre, mientras que Capoue pudo anotar el segundo de su cuenta particular.
Finalmente, el Villarreal ‘mató’ el partido en el 89’ en un balón que peleó y robó Capoue para que Danjuma fusilara al meta de un Young Boys que siempre dio la cara, pero que se fue de vacío de La Cerámica. El Submarino amarró una victoria clave que peligró en muchos momentos.
