No es el de hace unos años, pero continúa teniendo estrella. Cristiano Ronaldo, que este miércoles se convirtió en el futbolista con más partidos jugados en la Champions (178), completó una actuación más que gris en el Manchester United-Villarreal, pero apareció en el 95' para marcar el gol con el que los 'red devils' hundieron al 'submarino amarillo'. Los de Unai Emery fueron notoriamente superiores en la primera mitad y por momentos reinó en el luminoso de Old Trafford un 0-1 que se antojaba incluso corto, pero a la postre 'El teatro de los sueños' se convirtió en un escenario de pesadilla para el Villarreal al acontecer una remontada muy dolorosa.
Tras unos minutos de tanteo, cuando entraron en calor los de Emery protagonizaron infinidad de ocasiones de gol en las que, una vez tras otra, De Gea reivindicó su figura en ocasiones menospreciada. El portero español fue con mucha diferencia el mejor de los locales en una primera parte en la que Danjuma hizo lo que quiso con Dalot (rozando lo insultante por la superioridad en su duelo particular) y tanto el neerlandés como Yeremy Pino y Alcácer estuvieron realmente cerca de inaugurar el marcador.
No obstante, para ver como se deshacía el 'resultado gafas' (0-0) hubo que esperar a la segunda mitad. Concretamente, hasta el 53', que fue cuando Alcácer remató en boca de gol un servicio de Danjuma desde la izquierda después de que el neerlandés se marchase por enésima vez de Dalot. Esta vez De Gea no pudo hacer nada y por fin el 0-1 subió al marcador.
Pero ya se sabe que el fútbol es caprichoso, y decidió que la alegría 'grogueta' debía durar tan solo hasta el 60', que es cuando empató el Manchester United. Fue en una jugada de estrategia que Bruno Fernandes dibujó en su mente. El portugués dispuso de una falta pegado a la línea de fondo a la izquierda del marco defendido por Rulli, Alex Telles se acercó para centrar con rosca desde allí, pero Bruno le dijo que se marchase a la frontal del área. Tenía un plan. Exactamente allí puso el balón el portugués para que el brasileño conectase un zurdazo que se coló entre todos los jugadores que había en el área y llegó a la red para establecer el empate.
A partir de ahí, unos y otros acusaron tanto la falta de gasolina (tema de actualidad en la Gran Bretaña en la que se jugó el partido) como la tensión vivida, y aunque Cavani y Boulaye Dia dispusieron de ocasiones de gol para Manchester United y Villarreal todo hacía indicar que la cosa acabaría en empate. Pero no. Entonces apareció Cristiano Ronaldo, casi inédito hasta entonces, y aprovechó un balón suelto en el área tras un contragolpe para superar a Rulli y desatar la locura en las gradas de Old Trafford.
El Villarreal regresó a casa con la cabeza alta por haber sido superior a todo un Manchester United, pero sin premio. Se queda último de grupo con 1 punto y su próximo compromiso tendrá lugar dentro de tres semanas ante el Young Boys en Suiza. Queda terminantemente prohibido fallar allí.
