Es sin duda uno de los equipos más estimulantes de esta edición de la Champions League. El Sheriff, particularidades a parte como el hecho de disputar la liga de Moldavia considerándose la Transnistria en la que juega una región independiente de dicho país (no reconocida oficialmente), es un conjunto que precisa de lupa y análisis porque desde luego que no es uno más en la competición. Más si cabe teniendo en cuenta que su plan de juego en la Champions dista y mucho del que lleva a cabo cuando disputa (y habitualmente gana) su liga doméstica.
Dicho de otra forma, lo primero que hay que destacar a la hora de explicar cómo juega el Sheriff es que el de la Champions no tiene nada que ver con el de la liga de Moldavia. Lejos de un fútbol dominante siendo amo y señor de la posesión de balón ante equipos como los desconocidos Zimbru Chisinau, Floresti o Balti, en la máxima competición continental el Sheriff apuesta por minimizar los errores defensivos, mantener el orden táctico tanto como sea posible, y hacer uso del contragolpe directo cuando es posible. Así jugó hace dos semanas ante el Shakhtar y también en la fase previa frente al Dinamo Zagreb, y la cosa no le salió nada mal al vencer por 2-0 ante los ucranianos y endosarle un 3-0 y cosechar un 0-0 ante los croatas. Vaya, que en ninguno de los tres partidos encajó gol pese a que la iniciativa en el juego siempre la llevó el rival acumulando más del 70% de la posesión. Pero cabe puntualizar que aunque no tuvo el balón, sí dispuso de rápidas llegadas al área con las que pillar desprevenido al Shakhtar.
En cuanto a nombres, resulta muy curioso que cuenta con un Cristiano y con un Adama Traoré pero ni uno ni el otro son los futbolistas en los que uno piensa en términos futbolístico. Cristiano es el lateral izquierdo, y contra el Shakhtar jugó un partidazo de antología y Adama Traoré sí es extremo y cuenta con gol como dejó claro tanto frente al cuadro ucraniano como anteriormente ante el Dinamo Zagreb. Otros nombres a destacar son el del delantero colombiano Frank Castañeda y el del mediocentro Edmund Addo. Todos ellos sueñan con dar la campanada este martes en el santiago Bernabéu. No se antoja nada fácil, pero el Sheriff confía en imponer su ley ante el Real Madrid.
