El Betis celebró su regreso a Europa con una sufrida remontada ante el Celtic que motivó la alegría de un Benito Villamarín volcado con la ocasión. El caos defensivo de la primer media hora dio paso a una exhibición ofensiva liderada por el carácter de Miranda y Joaquín y el acierto goleador de Borja Iglesias y Juanmi. Una locura de goles inesperada que invita a soñar en Heliópolis en su periplo por esta Europa League.
El Betis entró dormido al choque y en Europa eso se paga. Ni Guardado ni Canales encontraron la forma de tomar los mandos del juego y al equipo de Pellegrini se le multiplican los problemas sin balón. Rogic reinó desde el arranque para lanzar a los atacantes del Celtic y ahí dañaron entre espacios Jota y Montgomery. Antes del primer cuarto de hora el portugués firmó una brillante carrera por el flanco derecho para liderar una contra que terminó con el remate de Ajeti a la red de Bravo. El árbitro anuló el tanto por una mano que el VAR dictaminó que no existió.
El gol escocés no despertó al cuadro de Pellegrini. La zaga verdiblanca volvió a desajustarse para que Turnbull y Rogic siguieran encontrando infinidad de líneas de pase. Edgar y Víctor Ruiz se miraban al tiempo que Ajeti volvía a colarse entre espacios para provocar el penalti de Claudio Bravo. No erró Juranovic, que multiplicó el miedo en las gradas del Villamarín.
Bravo salvó entonces el posible 0-3 de Jota y la película dio un giro inesperado. Miranda tiró de carácter y tras toparse con el poste insistió en otra acción para colarse en el área del Celtic y definir con precisión ante Hart. Despertó a su público y quizás también a algunos de sus compañeros. Apretó más Canales, el Celtic titubeó y Joaquín, inagotable a sus 40 años, inventó un pase mágico a Borja Iglesias para que éste regalara el 2-2 a Juanmi. Enloqueció Heliópolis, que volvía a creer.
El primer tiempo desnudó las carencias del Betis y Pellegrini quiso corregir su plan. Pidió más presión y pronto la reacción quedó reflejada sobre el césped cuando Miranda conectó con Canales por el flanco zurdo y el cántabro sirvió un balón perfecto que Borja Iglesias aprovechó con delicadeza para batir a Hart. La remontada parecía real en el Villamarín. Joaquín se marchó ovacionado y el Celtic vio minimizadas sus fuerzas después de su fulgurante inicio.
Pero el cuadro de Postecoglou no se rindió. La madera impidió el tanto de Roglic y Ralston puso de cabeza el 4-3 a las puertas del tramo final. Tembló el Betis, que ya no tenía ni a Canales ni a Fekir para tener el balón en su poder. Miró el reloj Pellegrini, que encuentra el camino de su primer triunfo en esta Europa League con más sufrimiendo del deseado y bajo el calor de un Villamarín que quiere mucho más de los suyos.
