Yaya Touré se despide del Manchester City. Esta noche, ante el Brighton, será el último adiós. El club ha preparado un homenaje para "uno de los futbolistas más importantes de su historia", según Pep Guardiola. El marfileño llegó en 2010 y desde entonces ha sido una pieza fundamental de los 'citizens'.
"Los futbolistas son capaces de hacer crecer a los clubes. Y Yaya Touré es uno de los más importantes en la historia del Manchester City. Vamos a jugar por y para Yaya. Es un jugador con una increíble personalidad. No siente la presión, siempre está relajado y ama jugar al fútbol", explicaba Guardiola en la previa.
Aunque su papel durante esta temporada ha sido muy secundario (apenas 16 partidos entre todas las competiciones y ningún gol), Yaya Toure fue clave en las etapas de Mancini y Pellegrini. Y ha estado presente en todos los títulos que ha conseguido el Manchester City en estos años.
Marcó un gol en la semifinal y otro en la final de la FA Cup ganada en 2011 ante el Manchester United. Poco después, en la Premier League del 2012, ganada en el último segundo del último partido, su encuentro contra el Newcastle se recuerda de forma especial: en la penúltima jornada, a domicilio, marcó los goles de la victoria en St James' Park en los minutos 70 y 89 cuando se espiraban las opciones de victoria del City.
Su convivencia con Pep Guardiola ha tenido múltiples altibajos. Las polémicas declaraciones de su representante Dimitri Seluk, siempre en contra del técnico catalán, han afectado a Yaya Touré, que sin embargo renovó el pasado verano por la mitad de dinero.
Este curso ha sido un habitual de la grada y, por ejemplo, no jugó en la final de la Copa de la Liga en la que el Manchester City venció por 3-0 al Arsenal.
