Con la caída frente a Estudiantes, el Xeneize no ganó en las primeras seis fechas del campeonato: sólo hay dos antecedentes más negativos en 116 años.
Boca está acostumbrado a ganar en el fútbol argentino. A lo largo de sus 116 años de vida, el Xeneize es el segundo equipo con más títulos a nivel local, nunca salió último y tampoco sufrió jamás un descenso de categoría. Por eso, cuando las victorias no llegan, en la Ribera se inquietan las aguas. Y en este segundo semestre de 2021, los triunfos se están demorando tanto que la campaña del equipo de Miguel Ángel Russo está muy cerca de meterse en la historia negra del club.
Con su derrota 1-0 frente a Estudiantes de este domingo 15 de agosto, Boca no ganó en las primeras seis fechas del Torneo de la Liga Profesional: suma cuatro empates (frente a Unión, Banfield, Talleres y Argentinos) y dos caídas (además del Pincha, había caído con San Lorenzo). La racha es tan poco habitual para el Xeneize que representa el tercer peor arranque de un campeonato local desde que la institución empezó a competir de manera oficial, en 1908.
Hasta ahora, la mayor cantidad de jornadas que tardó el conjunto de la Ribera en conseguir su primer triunfo en un torneo fue en 1915, cuando sumó su primera victoria recién en la novena fecha (3-1 sobre Hispano Argentino) después de acumular dos empates y seis derrotas en sus primeras ocho presentaciones. Apenas un encuentro menos demoró en conseguir una alegría en el Metropolitano 1984: tras sumar cuatro igualdades y tres caídas, el equipo que dirigía el brasileño Dino Zani (que había reemplazado a Miguel Ángel López, víctima de aquel mal arranque) venció 1-0 a Unión y cortó la racha de siete sin ganar.
La caída en La Plata, además, hizo que el conjunto de Russo superase el inicio negativo de 1949, cuando Boca también había llegado a la sexta fecha sin victorias (en aquel entonces fue un empate y cuatro derrotas).
Pero el mal comienzo de este Boca no se circunscribe únicamente al campeonato local: más allá de que se clasificó a los cuartos de final de la Copa Argentina en los penales contra River, el Xeneize todavía no ganó un partido en el tiempo regular en lo que va del semestre. Además de los seis del Torneo LPF, acumuló dos empates en la Copa Libertadores contra Atlético Mineiro (que luego lo eliminó en la tanda) y el 0-0 frente al Millonario. Si a eso se suma el empate contra Racing de las semis de la Copa de la Liga del semestre pasado (donde también cayó en los penales), ya son 10 los partidos que acumula sin sonreir el conjunto de la Ribera.
Para encontrar una seguidilla tan negativa hay que retroceder hasta 1957, cuando no pudo ganar entre las fechas 6 y 17 del Campeonato de aquel año y constituyó la peor racha de su historia sin triunfos. Ya sin Miguel Russo en el banco, será Sebastián Battaglia quien asuma la responsabilidad de ponerle fin a esta pesadilla, ya sin pibes de reserva sino con los profesionales.
