El ariete, cedido por el Palmeiras hasta diciembre de 2022, fue titular en su primer partido con el Tricolor Gaúcho y estuvo 75 minutos sobre el césped del Arena do Gremio, con el dorsal 9 a la espalda.
Dispuso de su primera gran oportunidad en el primer minuto de juego en un cabezazo a la salida de un saque de esquina. Aunque en el minuto 3, el Chapecoense, colista en la clasificación justo por detrás del Gremio, dio la sorpresa y se adelantó por medio de Anselmo Ramon.
El atacante Alisson igualó todo quince minutos después con un disparo desde fuera del área ajustado al palo. Borja culminaría la remontada antes del descanso al transformar un penalti que él mismo provocó.
En el inicio de la segunda mitad, el goleador cafetero se quejó de unos dolores en la región lumbar, pero pudo continuar sin mayores consecuencias hasta que fue sustituido por el atacante brasileño Luiz Fernando a quince minutos del pitido final.
Los tres puntos dejan al cuadro que dirige Luiz Felipe Scolari, exseleccionador de Brasil y Portugal, aún penúltimo en la tabla, pero ya a tan solo cinco puntos de distancia del Sao Paulo, que marca la salvación y tiene dos partidos más que el equipo de Porto de Alegre.
Por su parte, el Chapecoense se hunde todavía más y sigue sin conocer la victoria después de quince jornadas, con un balance de cuatro empates y once derrotas.
El líder de la Liga es el Atlético Mineiro, que el pasado fin de semana apartó del primer puesto de la clasificación al Palmeiras, después de ganar de remontada al recién ascendido Juventude por 1-2 y ver como caía el conjunto paulista en casa frente al Fortaleza (2-3).
