El delantero Mattewh Hoppe marcó en el minuto 83 a Jamaica y a Estados Unidos le bastó el 1-0 para avanzar a las semifinales de la Copa Oro, instancia en la que le espera este jueves Catar, la selección anfitriona del próximo Mundial.
Los cataríes avanzaron el sábado al derrotar por 3-2 a El Salvador.

El gol de Hoppe, su primero de la selección, llegó como un auténtico regalo del portero de Jamaica, Andre Blake, que salió en falso a despejar el balón.
El delantero estadounidense marcó a placer cuando mejor jugaban los Reggae Boyz.
La falta de puntería condenó a los jamaiquinos, que hicieron figura al arquero Matt Turner.
Los Reggae Boyz pudieron haberse ido al descanso con, al menos, un gol de ventaja.
La historia no cambió en la segunda parte, en la que de nuevo Jamaica fue superior en las oportunidades de gol, pero un fallo, el único que tuvo Blake, que había estado seguro durante toda la noche, cometió en el que impidió que su equipo, al menos hubiese llegado al tiempo de prórroga y tal vez a los penaltis.
No fue así, Estados Unidos, con muy poco fútbol, y mucha suerte, hizo buenos los pronósticos de alcanzar la semifinales por decimoquinta vez, solamente quedó eliminada en cuartos de final en la edición del 2000, cuando el título se lo quedó Canadá.
