Wijnaldum confiesa que el técnico argentino jugó un papel fundamental en su fichaje por el PSG, descartando la oferta del FC Barcelona y de Ronald Koeman.
Georginio Wijnaldum, primer fichaje de la temporada del Paris Saint-Germain, se encuentra desde hoy, jueves, en la capital francesa. Después de firmar su contrato, ha podido disfrutar de unos días de descanso debido a su participación en la Eurocopa 2020. El centrocampista holandés ha concedido sus primeras entrevistas como parisien, tanto en los canales oficiales del club como en el medio francés RMC Sport.
En ella destacó el papel de Mauricio Pochettino para que recalara en las filas del club parisino, algo que el entrenador argentino ya había intentado cuando dirigía al Tottenham y Wijnaldum militaba en el Liverpool. "Pochettino ya se me había acercado en ese momento, para ficharme por el Tottenham, así que ya había hablado mucho con él. Todo el club me hizo sentir que realmente me querían, eso jugó un papel importante en mi decisión". De este modo, el técnico del PSG le arrebató a Koeman su ansiado fichaje para reforzar el mediocampo del FC Barcelona.
El mediocampista neerlandés admite su afición por el Barça y niega que la razón por la que se decantó por el club francés fuera la capacidad económica de cada uno. "Elegir entre el PSG y el Barça fue una elección difícil porque soy hincha del Barça desde que era joven". "Puedo confirmar que la diferencia económica entre los dos no era tan grande. Tenía buenas sensaciones con ambos equipos y el PSG era más rápido que el Barça, así que elegí este club", añadió.
Sobre los sentimientos que le provocaba el llegar a un club como el Paris Saint-Germain, afirma que "es un sentimiento fuerte, me uno a un gran club, que tiene grandes jugadores en su plantilla. París es una ciudad hermosa, con una afición increíble". Por último, el ex de Feyenoord, PSV y Liverpool dejó claro cuál es su objetivo en el club parisino. "Ganar títulos es muy importante, eso es lo que todos queremos lograr como futbolista. Y el PSG quiere ganar, es un club que ha progresado mucho a lo largo de los años, que ha disputado una final de Champions, que también llegó a cuartos de final la temporada pasada. Creo que el proyecto es hermoso y estamos formando un equipo para cumplir con estos objetivos".
