España es un país de una gran tradición futbolística. Nuestro país ha tenido grandes momentos en los Juegos Olímpicos, e incluso, en 1992, en Barcelona, el combinado nacional se hizo con la medalla de oro, la primera de su historia.
Sin embargo, en los últimos años, el cuadro nacional no ha tenido suerte en la competición más grande en el mundo del deporte. Es por ello que merece la pena repasar desde cuándo no gana una medalla la selección española.

La última vez que no gana una medalla España es en el año 2000. En los Juegos de Sidney, la selección llegó hasta la gran final, y estuvo cerca de hacerse con su segunda medalla de oro. Sin embargo, perdió el partido decisivo ante Camerún en la tanda de penaltis. Esa fue la última vez en la que se ganó una presea.
En los Juegos de 2004, que se disputaron en Atenas, el combinado nacional ni se llegó a clasificar. En Pekín 2008, el cuadro español corrió la misma suerte y no pudo entrar en los Juegos Olímpicos, sumando su segundo ciclo olímpico consecutivo sin estar.
En Londres 2012, España estuvo en la fase de grupos, pero fue colista de grupo. El cuadro español solo sumó 1 punto en los 3 encuentros que disputó, encajando 2 goles y no anotó un solo gol, una cifra de lo más significativa.
Ya en Río, los últimos Juegos, España tampoco tuvo un buen papel. De hecho, ni se llegaron a clasificar, sumando de nuevo una ausencia, que se ha roto con la presencia de los de Luis de la Fuente en Japón.
