El centrocampista canario ha sido elegido por un comité de expertos que forman ex jugadores y entrenadores tras su brillante papel con España.
La UEFA ha anunciado que Pedri González ha sido elegido como el mejor jugador joven de la Eurocopa 2021. El canario tuvo un papel destacado en el torneo en el que llegó a semifinales con la Selección de España y jugó prácticamente todos los minutos a las órdenes de Luis Enrique Martínez.
El canario del Barcelona ha sido elegido para este galardón por un comité de expertos de la UEFA que forman ex jugadores y entrenadores y entre los que se encuentran: Packie Bonner, Esteban Cambiasso, Fabio Capello, Cosmin Contra, Corinne Diacre, Jean-François Domergue, Dušan Fitzel, Steffen Freund, Frans Hoek, Aitor Karanka, Robbie Keane, Ginés Meléndez, David Moyes, Mixu Paatelainen, Peter Rudbæk y Willi Ruttensteiner.
Este mismo comité de expertos ha elegido a Gianluigi Donnarumma como el mejor jugador de la Eurocopa. El premio a mejor jugador joven se entrega a futbolistas menores de 23 años que hayan tenido un gran impacto en el torneo tanto a nivel individual como colectivo y cuyo comportamiento a nivel de fair play también haya sido destacable y se empezó a conceder en la edición de 2016 cuando el elegido fue Renato Sanches.
La UEFA destaca que Pedri ha disputado casi 700 minutos con España en torneo, que ha tenido un ratio de acierto en el pase del 93% y que ha recorrido casi 40 kilómetros coduciendo el balón durante todo el torneo, mientras que en las semifinales ante Italia sólo falló un pase de los 66 que dio.
El propio Luis Enrique se rindió a su papel el pasado lunes: "Lo que ha hecho Pedri en este torneo, a los 18, nadie lo ha hecho. Ni siquiera Andrés Iniesta lo hizo; es increíble, único".
